For World Refugee Day 2015, the Refugee Ministry of the RCH is encouraging anyone available to join in the UNHCR Celebrations and events organised by the ministry. To mark this day we share Sophie’s story, a benefactor of the Refugee Ministry and featured in the poster stories for UNHCR.

Teach Overseas Closes its Doors after 33 Years

The Teach Overseas program has been sending native English speakers to Hungary for more than 20 years. Most recently this connection has been manifested through the organization’s relationship with the Refugee Ministry of the Reformed Church in Hungary.

Learning Together

Maria Kojdecka came to Budapest as a volunteer with no real plan of where she would work. All she knew was that she wanted to teach and wanted an adventure. She found herself at the community center of the Reformed Church in Hungary’s Refugee Ministry.

Abraham and Sarah, the newborn Jesus and the first Christians all experienced the compulsion to flee and the difficulties of integration, but all of them also knew the care of God. The Hungarian Bible Society and the Reformed Mission Centre have prepared a traveling exhibition that urges us to see the vulnerability of refugees.

The Celebration of Chance

Zoltán Balog, minister of Human Resources, presented several awards on 11 November, the Day of Social Work. The heads of the RCH's Homeless Ministry and Refugee Ministry as well as the Mohács-Kölked congregation social home and its director were among the recipients.

U.S. Teachers Excited to Teach in Hungarian Refugee Camps

The RCH is filled with joy to welcome a group of 10 U.S. teachers to Hungary from the Teach Overseas program. They will spend the summer teaching English at refugee camps in Debrecen, Bicske, Fót and at the Refugee Mission's new community center in Budapest.

A Celebration of World Refugee Day

A new United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) report states that the number of refugees and internally displaced people is at an 18-year high with the crisis in Syria being a leading factor. However, the RCH Refugee Mission decided to honor World Refugee Day in a more positive light.
